In 2024, the NFL made in-person gambling education mandatory for all players, resulting in zero gambling violations during that season. This proactive approach follows the suspension of 10 players for gambling infractions in 2023. The league's commitment to education is further demonstrated by its annual training of over 20,000 individuals, including players, coaches, officials, and medical staff, on gambling policies.

Since the 2018 Supreme Court ruling that struck down a federal ban on sports betting, 38 states and Washington D.C. have legalized some form of sports wagering.
